Volunteer Legal Opportunities

Sound Legal Aid provides free civil legal help to people in Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, Lewis, and Pacific counties who cannot afford an attorney. Our clients often come to us in crisis, and we approach each case with care for their individual circumstances. Through legal clinics, brief advice, and in some cases limited representation, our staff attorneys and volunteer attorneys work side by side to meet civil legal needs across the region.

Volunteering your time as an attorney offers something that your day-to-day practice may not—a chance to step in and help someone at a moment when they have nowhere else to turn, often in the span of a single conversation. Whether you’re early in your career and looking for hands-on experience, or further along and looking for new experience or to reconnect with why you went to law school in the first place, our clinics offer a low-pressure way to put your skills to use. No prior experience in the practice area. Mentors and experienced volunteers are present at clinics and available to answer questions, so you’re never working through a case alone.

We rely on volunteer attorneys, donors, and partner organizations to expand our reach, and we welcome attorneys interested in volunteering through our clinics.
