The Supervising Staff Attorney supports the Department’s and division’s mission to protect and improve the health of people in the State of Washington by providing thorough and professional legal services in support of the licensing and discipline of health care professionals and facilities. This position reports to the Office of Investigative and Legal Services (OILS) Director and supervises a team of Health Systems Quality Assurance (HSQA) staff attorneys (Hearings Examiner 3).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide professional and technical expertise, deliver enhanced legal services, and provide department leadership in the areas of complex and emergency adjudication.
As a leader in OILS (and a member of the OILS Management Team – OMT),
assist in the quality assurance of the overall HSQA legal process with specific responsibility for the programs responsible for providing legal services to boards and commissions and programs administered by the Secretary of DOH.
Coordinate imminent danger and high priority cases for regulated health care professions and facilities.
Identify solutions to address backlog and workload issues.
Provide assistance and guidance relating to policy issues, rulemaking activities, and legislative matters related to regulatory or disciplinary topics.
Serve as primary contact and the OILS resource for boards and commissions that regulate health care providers and/or facilities and for other HSQA programs.
