The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Risk Mitigation Manager within the Administrative Operations Division, Risk Management Unit. This position is located at DOC Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington.

DUTIES:
In Support of the Agency’s mission ‘To Improve Public Safety’, the Risk Mitigation Manager is responsible for performing risk management services and consultation. These services include responsibility for identification, mitigation, and management of risks arising from statewide programs. The Risk Mitigation Manager will advise program executives and managers on strategies for loss prevention and control, and will manage assigned claims and lawsuits including facilitating case resolutions.Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing claims and lawsuits as assigned by the Risk Management Director.
  • Resolution of legal disputes with values up to $150,000.
  • Representing the Agency at mediation and trial as assigned by the Risk Management Director.
  • Determine final agency action on public disclosure appeals.
  • Preparation of quarterly report of incidents for submittal to State Risk Management office.
  • Review of Agency policies ensuring consistency with state and federal laws and risk management principles.
  • Consultation with Agency managers and executives, providing advice and recommendations for managing risks and preventing losses.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, public administration, risk management, or other related field from an accredited institution, whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent.* AND
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience as a Risk Manager or similar position for a large organization with responsibilities for enterprise risk management, identification of risks and risk trends, development of loss prevention strategies, providing advice and developing strategy on managing tort liability claims and lawsuits.

*Professional experience in addition to the two year requirement as described above may substitute year for year for the educational requirement.

Preferred:

  • A Law Degree from an accredited institution, whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent.
