The March Member Luncheon and CLE will be on March 24, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (with social 1/2 hour starting at 11:30 a.m.) at Tugboat Annie’s Viewpoint Room.
COVID and the Effects on Courts of Limited Jurisdictions presented by the Honorable Judge Brett Buckley from Thurston County District Court.
COVID had a profound affect on all of our daily lives and adjustments were necessary to keep our society moving and none more so than in the criminal justice system. Judge Buckley will discuss the significant changes that had to be implemented to keep the Thurston County District Court of limited jurisdiction functioning. The Court made use of recent advancements in technology to allow participants to appear remotely while still maintaining compliance with our State’s requirements of ensuring that the proceedings would be open to the public. This required collaboration with the Prosecutor’s Office, Defense Counsel, District Court probation, law enforcement and other criminal justice partners to ensure just, fair and equitable outcomes during the pandemic. As the COVID restrictions have relaxed, the Thurston County District Court will again modify its practices while still maintaining some of the positive modifications required during the pandemic as we move forward.
Cost is $30 for TCBA members and $35 for non-members
