Join representatives from each of these county agencies to hear presentations on topics designed to be of interest to attorneys and legal support staff. the focus will be on real property and related topics.

Attorneys are encouraged to bring paralegals, legal assistants or other members of their support staff so that all may benefit from the practical comments and suggestions offered by these agencies.  Non-attorney support staff may attend for the TCBA member price of $50.

1:00 p.m. — 2:00 p.m.

An Overview of Property Transfers and the Foreclosure Process”, presented by Thurston County Treasurer, Jeff Gadman, Maureen Cook, and Eric Sullivan.

Mr. Gadman will begin by giving a general overview of the office and its functions. He will then turn it over to Maureen Cook, Senior Customer Service Representative, who will give a presentation on the process of transferring ownership of property, briefly touching on warranty deeds, but then going into a little more depth on deeds testamentary, quit claim deeds and so forth. She will also talk about real estate excise tax and legal descriptions. Then, Eric Sullivan will give a presentation on the foreclosure process, including what happens during the process and how we work very hard with taxpayers to get the taxes caught up before the property goes to auction. Then he will also talk about the distraint of personal property and what is involved in that.

2:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m.

“The New GeoData Website: A Practical Demonstration and Question & Answer Session”, presented by Kelly Haugen of Thurston County GeoData.
Ms. Haugen will provide a practical demonstration of the tools and capabilities in the New GeoData Viewer using real world examples.

 3:15 p.m.—4:00 p.m.

“Insight Into The Assessor’s Office”, presented by Thurston County Assessor, Steven Drew, Teresa Hoyer, and Sherri Bush.
The Assessor’s office will provide information about being Internationally Recognized for Excellence in Assessment Administration, Backlog at the BTA (Board of Tax Appeals), Commercial Appeals, Pocket Gopher Policy, Transfers, Subdivisions/Condos, and Exemption/Deferral programs.

4:15 p.m.—4:45 p.m.

“Understanding Document Recording Processes in Thurston County”, Thurston County
Auditor Mary Hall.
Ms. Hall will answer your questions about recording documents in Thurston County, you will learn about recording requirements, fee schedules, where to find information and tips and tricks on recording documents with ease.
